DARLINGTON RAILWAY CENTRE & MUSEUM

Our collections cover the railways of North East England, with particular emphasis on the Darlington area.

Of greatest significance is Stephenson’s “Locomotion”, built for the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway in 1825 and “Derwent”, which is the earliest surviving Darlington built locomotive.

We have a range of smaller items including station and lineside signs, locomotive nameplates and numberplates, signalling equipment, lamps, uniforms and furniture.

To complement our object collection we have an archive. This archive holds a wealth of information, including plans, drawings, photographs, timetables, accident reports and registers of enginemen.
